At present, the number of registered day-care beds for older persons has reached considerable level in China, but the actual utilization ratio of related facilities is very low. In this paper, Nangang District of Harbin was taken as a case study subject. First of all, it starts from surveying the current situation of the day care service for the elderly and the needs of the users, and comparing with the day care experience in Sheffield, England. Then, the paper summarizes a series of outstanding problems concerning the day care facilities for the elderly. At last, it proposes some design strategies in the planning layout, community construction and building mode for the elderly day care facility in the future in Nangang District of Harbin. In the meantime, it can provide references for the similar city to improve the construction quality of community elderly facilities.
