The study of light-weight prefabricated building has become one of the hottest topics in Chinese architectural field in recent years. However, there are still insufficient systematic studies about its development. Therefore, based on the perspective of architecture, this paper aims to explore and analyze the relevant historical results of designs, practices and researches of the light-weight prefabricated architecture since the 1930s. Three dimensionalities of development are summarized and discussed: construction efficiency, space adaptability and performance. Finally it concludes that light-weight prefabricated architecture should be retrieved to the building ontology.
